Laser Vision Correction

You can't open a newspaper these days without seeing a "sale" on laser vision correction. This should cause some concern for consumers as it is a very unusual approach to health care and is a reflection of "big business" getting involved with the provision of health care. Nevertheless it has impacted the provision of laser refractive surgery in all clinics and at the end of the day the consumers are the beneficiaries.

The Horizon Laser Vision Center fee for both eyes is $2,990 effective July 1st, 2006. They have continued to offer a choice of local surgeons and the fee covers all pre and post operative visits with both the optometrist and surgeon. Atrium Optometric Group believes this is the right way to do any surgery.

You should consult your optometrist as you always would and the patient and doctor then decide if surgery is an option. Further pre-operative testing is required and if the patient is a suitable candidate then the patient and the doctor will choose a surgeon and the appropriate referral is made - the same way it is for any secondary service such as cataract surgery. At the end of the service you are referred back to your optometrist who completes the service. Your relationship with your doctor is preserved and you have accessed the best available care.
